How We Began

Kappa Settings: A Tradition of Philanthropy and Community

Kappa Settings began with a vision. In 1995, the Kappa board sought to create an event that would not only bring Kappas together in a social setting, but also expand fundraising efforts to support local Austin charities. While Kappa Kaladiums had long been a successful fundraiser, the desire was to establish something new that could have a broader impact.

Inspired by a visit to Kappa Tablescapes in Dallas, the idea to introduce a similar experience in Austin started to take shape. After a year of research, planning, and deliberation—especially regarding the event's name—Kappa Settings officially launched. The inaugural event took place in 1997 at the Stouffer Hotel at the Arboretum, Chaired by Lanette Smith. Caroline Hunt of Rosewood Hotels served as the first guest speaker, setting the tone for what would evolve into an iconic tradition. Despite a last-minute injury, Caroline's dedication and presence helped make the sold-out event a resounding success, embraced by the Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae community and the greater Austin area.

Since then, Kappa Settings has grown, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for Austin charities while also supporting the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation. Over the years, Kappa Settings has hosted distinguished speakers such as Jane Scott Hodges, Lela Rose, and Kimberley Schlegel Whitman. Showcasing the creative talents of Austin's leading designers and highlighting the ongoing commitment and support of the Kappa sisterhood.

Kappa Settings remains one of Austin’s most beloved philanthropic traditions, uniting Kappas and the community to make a meaningful impact.
